> "Would you mind telling me if there are any other notable individuals here in this land? I have heard the name 'Yakumo' is widely-respected, for one example."
>"Ah, them," says Remilia, sipping her tea. "The Yakumos are...something of a problem waiting to happen for us. They are a family lead by Yukari, the Gap Youkai, who is quite troublesomely powerful and a bit of a prankster. She had a direct hand in Gensokyo's formation, and we believe she maintains the border behind the scenes. To what degree is anyone's guess, but we assume she is reasonably important. She has a familiar, a fox youkai by the name of Ran, who is herself quite powerful but a bit more level-headed. The danger around her is that she is quite the willing servant for Yukari, so one should not be too quick to trust her. The third of their family is Ran's familiar, a nekomata named Chen. Chen is of negligible concern, but what she sees and hears will travel upward."
>Some of that sounds familiar, now that you think on it.
>"Mmm, let's see, others of note... You may be interested in the Komeiji family, who lives underground among the oni, and are feared by them. While them seem to hold no interests outside of their own household, one must not take them lightly. They are lead by Satori, a youkai of the same species who is fairly harmless as long as she and her pets are left in peace. However, one of her pets is a hell raven who has grown quite fearsomely powerful, and has developed a penchant for wandering the surface with her paramours. She used to be something of a threat, but I believe time and experience has moderated that."
>"I'm sure you know briefly of the tengu and kappa on Youkai mountain. They too are a problem for us; both are so insular that we would likely have to put quite a point upon them to get them to do much of anything. Thankfully, we do not require anything from them other their continued good behavior. The kappa are disorganized and live in a happy little anarchy, though lately they've taken to running a university that seems too disorganized to achieve anything. The tengu, on the other hand, are quite organized and swear fealty to their own lord. We will have to deal with him someday, we are certain, but until then we are content to allow them their own affairs."
>"Ah, you may know of Yuuka, the sunflower youkai. Quite frighteningly powerful, though our Patchouli has seen her off in the past. She lives to the north of the human town, and general prefers to be left alone. It's difficult to understand how her mind works, but she seems content to sometimes provide saplings to the humans, so we are content to leave her to her whims and allow her to cavort outside civilization as she will."
