>"Nor could I imagine mistress with one," says the maid,
>Making your way toward the western wall, you can see a variety of curious clothing. One is a white and red robe on a wooden mannequin, slim and somewhat resembling those that your ministers would wear, accompanying it is a curious cloth wrapped around the mannequin's head. Another that catches your eye is a elaborate feathery cloak  draped over the mannequin's shoulders, while a kind of hood bears more feathers and a raptor's beak; you note protective plating on the hood; a large wooden shield leads against it as well.  Another wears a like and breezy robe with ample space, and a head wrap that also raps around the face. A fourth wears only a loincloth and a simple cotton cloak across its shoulders as well as a headband. Yet another mannequin bears a brightly colored dress made of what seem to be long strips of sewn-together cloth, a similarly made shawl across the shoulders, and a thick kind of bead necklace that is more like a hoop; topped off with a kind of flat cylindrical cap. Another wears a kind kind of red and brown striped blanket around the shoulders, which obscures most of the body; a kind of club with a distinctive knot at the head dangles from underneath it. The last one is a kind of heavy woolen dress, bound at the waist with a sash and held together with a copper pin near the neck, while a mantle is draped over the shoulders, and a cloth folded about the head.

>"That may be so," says the maid. "As for these, ah..." She gestures toward the red and white robe and says, "This comes from the lands of the pharaohs, which Mistress says is one of the oldest lands in the world. This feathery cloak comes from the New World, apparently it is the garb of one of the orders of retainers to an emperor there. I would name the city, but it's such a mouthful that I don't think I could say it right from memory. This one," she gestures toward the cloak and loincloth, "is from the same place, reflective of what peasants wear."
>She moves to the breezy robe and headwrap, "This one is from the city of Timbuktu, a mighty empire in its time."  Then gesturing toward the colorful dress made of cloth strips, she says, "This hails from Abyssinia." Gesturing toward the blanket-like wrap, she says "That is the garb of a Maasai warrior. Though if I understand correctly, less martial people. And this last one belongs to the Incan Empire of the New World."

>She nods. "That is correct."
>As she answers, the gallery door opens, and a purple-haired faerie in a maid's outfit walks inside, then approaches while staring studiously at the floor.  "Mistress said she's ready," the faerie announces as she reaches you, staring hard at her feet. "And I'm not looking at the shiny things, just like you said!"
>"Ah, shall we, then?" says the maid, looking to you.

>You follow the maid back out into the hall. The faerie comes along and practically stares a hole into the floor until you exit the gallery, upon which she releases her held breath loudly and scurries off. The maid pays her no mind as she leads you toward a stairway near the end of the hall.
>"As yes," she says, as the two of you stair up the reasonably broad stairway, "I am Sakuya, Lady Scarlet's head maid."

> "Ah, I see. Well, I suppose there is little reason to speak the language of the mainland here."

>"Just so," says Sakuya as you approach another door at the top of the stairway.
>She leads you out into another corridor, this one much like the prior one, but dominated by a suit of metallic armor arranged to appear as though it were a guard standing with its hands folded over the hilt of a curious straight-bladed sword in front of it. She takes you to a small door, and holds it open for you.
>Inside is a fairly high-vaulted room with a crystalline chandelier dangling from the ceiling. A large carpet takes up much of the floor, bearing a kind of wheeled design cut into fragments, each fragment bearing a summery scene within it, and scrollwork filling the empty spaces. A fireplace stands against the wall, unlit and covered. The windows are obscured by thick velvety curtains, which have been drawn shut. Delicate-looking chairs with large cushions are gathered around a marble table covered with golden scrollwork, while smaller stools dot the wall, along with a large wooden cabinet. A petite-looking youkai sits in one of the chairs, wearing a simple pink dress and a matching mob cap, leathery wings extending from her shoulders and demurely mantled around her. At her side is a tall green-haired woman in a maid's uniform like Sakuya's, save for a shawl that is mantled around her arms and floats around her, wearing a serene expression on her face. Could she be a celestial? A tea set rests on the table.
>"You may go, Amaya," says the youkai. The green-haired woman nods and excuses herself without a world, as Sakuya moves to take her place. Then the youkai looks to you gives a smile, slightly exposing her teeth, which seem to be a bit sharper than a human's. "Welcome, Empress," she says. "Please have a seat. We've been waiting for you."
