>You had some contact with the kingdoms of Korea as well. Beyond that, you didn't have much personal knowledge, but your readings have suggested a wide variety of places since then. You know of a number of lands that are to the south and southwest of Japan; though it's a little difficult to keep them straight without a proper map; they weren't the focus of your studies at all.

>She nods as you reach the front doors, and opens the for you. "This way, please."
>Heading inside, you come to a sizable main hall. Two stairways curl up toward a massive balcony made of dark wood, lined with crimson banners that dangle below. Several marble statues line the hallway, their style and flowing garments foreign and quite exquisitely detailed; you would almost think them to be people made of stone, were it not for the lack of details around their eyes. Lush carpets cover large sections of the floor, bearing intricate geometric patterns that seem to subtly hint at a deeper meaning; you ponder if they do represent some kind of geomancy you have not yet seen.
>You barely have time to look around before the maid takes you to the western doors. Then leads to a long corridor, its walls made of slightly red panels of wood, their edges elaborately carved. On the southern side are numerous large windows, bordered with scarlet curtains. A couple faeries scurry about, dressed much like your guide, sweeping at the floor. The look up at you curiously, but look back down upon their work once they notice the maid. She leads you past several sets of hinged wooden doors, before coming to the last ones upon the Northern wall, which she opens.
>"The gallery is just inside," she says.

>"It is no trouble," she says.
>Entering the gallery, you find that there are two aisles that run along the walls, making a kind of square perimeter. The walls are lined with a variety of pieces; heavy-looking stone murals; wooden and stone statues of many kinds, many of them highly distorted in very specify ways. Along the center are stands bearing golden and silver items, laid out upon curious forms of cloth and sealed under glass cases. In the northwestern corner, you can see a pillar carved to look as though a serpent is coiled around it. The western wall is home to a number of mannequins wearing elaborate costumes of beads and feathers among. Scattered all over are a number of stands that seem to bear a number of trinkets. some of them quite large. The maid stands at your side quietly, hands folded.

> Let's have a look at the gold and silver items first.

>You have a look at the precious metal artifacts first. Some of them immediately catch your eye; such as flat masks of gold and silver, bearing curious whorls upon the cheeks, narrow eyes, and thin lips. A golden head of a handsome full-lipped man with tightly curled hair quickly catches your eye. Other things are less obvious; such as a curious silver crescent on a stand. Several pieces of large jewelry rest among the larger objects; hoop-like bracelets, slender rings , necklaces made of many golden panels inlaid with brightly polished jewels. A silver-bladed knife catches your eye, it's hilt shaped like a kneeling man. A coiled golden serpent rests among the objects; bearing a hole in it that suggests it was once a staff top.  A humble-looking golden pot sits near the end, decorated with snake-like lines. The cloth underneath them is nearly as interesting; sheets of bright color in very precise triangle patterns, featuring lots of warm colors punctuated with cool ones, forming loud and intricate patterns. Any of these pieces would have been featured prominently in your palace.
>The maid keeps at your side as you view the pieces, saying nothing.

>"Serpents are an important motif in the new world, as I understand it," she says. "But, I imagine they dray attention in any part of the world."
>You point to the crescent. "Ah," she says, "That one I do not understand very well myself. According to milady, it is custom in some lands for those of importance to coif their hair in very elaborate manners for purposes of rank and ceremony. As such, they find pillows impractical and choose to rest their heads upon those stands, so as to prefer the work that has been done to their hair more fully. You may note there are a number of hairpins near it as well."

>That was the most puzzling thing. The others, however foreign, you can determine what they are for to some degree. Though you suspect some, such as the golden head, are more for looking at than actually serving a useful role.

>This one takes you around the gallery, as the stands are scattered around various exhibits. These contain a number of significantly more mundane objects; wooden and ivory combs, small tools, scattered arrowheads, bronze knives. Here and there are small things made of of precious metals, jewelry not quite impressive enough for the central display, a few coins of gold and silver. Some of them are a bit less familiar: small statues of highly distorted people, little sculptures of styled animals that contract into small tubes in the center; serpents, birds, and cats being most common. One item that is particularly is a kind of scroll with book-like pages, designed to be folded rather than rolled, showing a number of violent scenes involving horsemen with dark-colored skin and lettering that is completely unfamiliar.
