>You have a look at it again. There are two katana there, one wakazashi, and a shorter tanto. None of them seem to match each other, so you doubt they are meant to be a set. As they are sheathed, you cannot really ascertain their quality beyond the decorations of their hilts.

>The two of you make your way over to the sword rack.
>At a glance, you can make a out a few details. One of the katanas has a whose interior is shaped like a tiger's head, embossed with gold, while the other looks particularly utilitarian. The wakazashi lacks a hilt and itself looks similarly basic in design, but you can see a few subtly indicators of  quality in how the handle is shaped; an amateur smith could not do that. The tanto's sheathe is decorated with intertwined snakes, but nothing jumps out as special to you at a glance.

>"There were a couple," she says, as she leads you outside, and around the house, taking you past the wing with the sagging roof. Glancing though the windows, you note the inside is mostly empty, and doesn't seem to be much better than the outside. "Not that that make or quality, though. I traded them long ago."
>Around the back, you can see that the trees are more dense here. Several of them have charms dangling off the their branches, you can't read them but you imagine they are probably designed to keep faeries away. Other trees have ropes with lengths of bamboo dangling from them, designed for chopping. Various cuts of green bamboo are placed into the ground in small stone holders, as well as a few dummies stuffed with dried grass. A fairly dense and sizeable grove of bamboo occupies much of the yard, some of it stretching a couple dozen feet into the air. You imagine Meira must have a hard time keeping it from spreading; or perhaps it has been spreading and she simply doesn't bother?
>"Have at whichever one you like," she says. "Don't worry, I have plenty more if you cut them all down."

>You draw the wakazashi and feel that it is wonderfully balanced. The blade is finally tempered, and you can see slight etchings of hydrangea blossoms along the blade. There are some tiny scratches here and there; it has definitely seen some use in its time.
>Setting to work, you take it through a few difficult strikes on a nearby training dummy, taking off one of its arms cleanly in segments. Meira watches you work with interest, while you get a few for the weapon. It is unquestionably a marvelous work of craft, and you can clearly feel the attention to detail that the smith poured into it. Through this, you are certain the weapon has inherited some kind of spiritual force from its forging, but you cannot tell what it might be. It is not a strong one, though.

>You take the tanto in hand. It is very light, a bit moreso than you might expect. Upon drawing it and examining it's blade, you note it has quite a bit of scuffing and some nicks in it, indicating that it has seen a lot of use. While you are are not really familiar with the use of knives, you at least competent enough to slice up a straw dummy without accidentally cutting yourself or sending the thign flying. The edge is good, but could be honed better, and the lightness doesn't do much for its cutting ability, though it stabs wonderfully. You suspect there's nothing special about this weapon; in fact, you suspect it has probably served as a tool and dining utensil more than anything.
